Alonso Gutiérrez

Biography

Alonso Gutiérrez Espinosa (1937) is a Mexican painter and master of plastic arts, born in Mérida, Yucatán. After studying painting with private teachers, he moved to Mexico City in 1958 to study with Bardasano, in San Carlos and in Spain at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and in the workshops of the painters Julio Moisés and Manuel Benedicto. In 1968 he received a scholarship from the French Government to take a course at the Conservatory of Arts and Crafts in Paris. Also go on a study trip to London. He made a ceramic mural at the Cordemex Complex. He has exhibited 3 times in Madrid, once in Paris and multiple times in the City of Mérida. He has worked at the Instituto de Bellas Artes de Yucatán as workshop coordinator and painting teacher and head of the plastic arts section for several years. He was director of the La Ibérica Cultural and Recreational Center. He has been awarded the Yucatán medal in 1991, and the Prize of the State Biennial of 1985.
