Iván Gardéa was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, in 1970. In 1992 he moved to Mexico City, where he studied engraving at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas with the teacher Jesús Martínez, and later continued education at the Academia de San Carlos. To date, he has had 16 individual exhibitions in various venues in Mexico City, the interior of the country and Spain. He has participated in more than forty collective exhibitions and in prestigious engraving biennials, where his work has been selected (Spain, Macedonia, Poland, Colombia, Brazil, the United States, Canada, Portugal and France). In 2009 he was awarded, in France, the first prize of the Engraving Biennale d'Epargne d'Albi. His drawings and engravings have illustrated various publications with national circulation and covers for publishers of recognized prestige. His work has developed over more than twenty years in the areas of engraving, drawing and sculpture. His work embodied in numerous series -especially in the field of engraving- has received favorable attention from the press and critics. He is currently considered one of the most interesting engravers of his generation in Mexico.
