Alberto Urzáiz

He was born in Mérida, Yucatán in 1950. He completed his primary and secondary studies at the Escuela Modelo and later attended the Preparatoria Modelo.

In 1969 he moved to Monterrey, Nuevo León to study Architecture at the Instituto de Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.

In 1973 he held his first exhibition of paintings in Mérida at the Central Library of the University of Yucatán.

In 1980 he promoted the creation of the Akil Gallery, the first that operated outside official institutions and brought together a group of artists with fresh ideas that, over time, would define the direction of the next generation of artists in Yucatán.
