Daniel Ruanova (Mexicali, Baja California, 1976). Lives and works between the borderlands of Tijuana and his land in Vallecitos B.C. He lives and works between the Tijuana border and his land in Vallecitos B.C. Daniel Ruanova calls himself a “borderrat” in a perennial cross-border situation. His constructs begin with painting, go through sculpture and installation, are refried in his punkformances and self-criticize with his investigations and institutional deformation. From clear questions of identity and genealogy - to heartbreaking cynicism where any logical sensation is dehumanized with aggression or violence, Ruanova seeks for her work to generate questions and seed criteria of aesthetic politics in the individuals who experience it. True to his ability to communicate through images and objects, Daniel Ruanova formed as a self-taught artist, especially from his participation in the vibrant cultural scene of the 1990s in Tijuana. In particular, Daniel acknowledges the contribution of Felipe Ehrenberg and Carlos Zerpa, whose workshops he attended during that time. Daniel Ruanova began his artistic career in 1998 with the exhibition "Glifo Urbano" at the Casa de la Cultura in Tijuana. In 2001 he was invited to present his work at the Muca Roma in Mexico City. Since then he has not stopped presenting his work in Mexico and the United States. More recently, his work has been widely recognized in Asia, specifically in the city of Beijing, where he has exhibited and where he has been invited to produce in international artist residency programs at the Shang Yuan Museum of Modern Art and CCD 300 of the Caochangdi Art District (2011) as well as the CIGE 09 International Exhibitions Program (2009).
